Alot of people nowadays don't think about this topic very much when they make their skins. Although at the time when you just get that jolt of pride.. Someone could just STEAL all that pride away with a couple clicks. Heres how these "thieves" as I lable them as, do it.

First. These "thieves" go to your site and maybe register. Then they head to the profile and view what the skin name is. So they make their first attempt to "STEAL" your skin.

.../skins/YourSkinName (Direct from the profile )

Sometimes this won't always work since some people have their skin name completely different in the skinname.php file. This does prevent the "thiefs" first attempt.

Second. They attempt to check to see if they can access the skins root directory.

You can provent the people from accessing the main directory of skins by adding a simple blank index.php/.html file into the directory; also add this to /img. Most of the times people already think about doing that.

Third. If a thief finds the name of the skin by any of the above.. They simplely just add this into their browsers.

.../skins/YourSkinName/someskinfile.tpl

And just copy and paste EVERY single file and their they go. They now would have your whole skin. And sure. The images shouldn't be to hard to get now that they know the images EXACT address from stealing your .tpl files. Oh.. And the .css file. Forgot to mention that.

Simple fix to all these problems!



Create a .htaccess file with the above code and add it to your .../skins directory. This simple fix will prevent the stealing of your skin.
